The Lyceum: Aristotle in a Bottle

I sent a message in a bottle

Was sent one back from Aristotle

“Our world has never known what’s best”

“To many, life is but a jest”

I pondered on his words awhile

My mind wanted to reconcile

So, sent a second; now eastbound

In search of something as profound

I feared my effort had proved useless

Then answers floated from Confucius

“Treat others right – the wise, the fool”

“Live, always, this Golden Rule”

Inspired by his valued words

I wrote and then cast out a third

I calmly waited; sat with patience

Soon receiving new conveyance

“Within your question, answers lie”

“More must ask the question: why?”

It spoke of forests among trees

This dispatch sent by Socrates

“Comply naught with their blind compliance”

“Live guided lives by that of science”

Said my fourth bottled buoyancy

From Archimedes of Sicily

Alas, the same remains through time

Analogies – rhythm – rhyme

Cultures – creeds – society

All things anthropology

Knowledge is our will to pass

Lessons learned which will outlast

Last far longer than we do

To tell the tale, our story; truth

Discussion, lecture, and debate

Often turns to scoff or hate

Rather, we let Lords define

Is this land yours? Is that land mine?

Act as one, behave as freemen

As they did in The Lyceum

When time dictates that none agree

Cooperate. Forge “us”, from “me”
