Cause & Effect

Hatred, malice, walls, no door

Cities, countries, all at war

Fighting just to stay alive

Families struggling to survive

A world of waste we’ve made, it seems

Turned to gray our once blue streams

Pillaged, they have done to Earth

All just to increase their net worth

Sickening, it is to me

That they thought these things were free

That all this came without a cost

And yet, on them, these words are lost

As no one seems to think things through

For if your cause would effect you

The actions that you choose today

Would be quite different, I would say

Your children’s lives, you all neglect

Yet sadly, that’s what I expect

From a kind who’s quick to take

And never thinks of what’s at stake

Support

It’s so funny

To me, at least

Each time I see

A friend succeed

As others shout

He’s a sell out!

In a negative outburst

Real friends agree

And true family

Support you, see

Help climb that tree

They do not doubt

What you’re about

They help you charge headfirst

It’s easy to see

The irony

For if you feed

In jealously

As people go

I’ll let you know

My friend, you are the worst

The Old Unknown Aristocrat

Some people get it, most people don’t

Some people will, most people won’t

Some people love, most people hate

Most people: good. Some people: great.

Maybe I’m the one who’s been mistaken after all

Maybe all this fighting’s a good reason for a wall

The more I see the more I hear the less I seem to understand

It’s almost like this world is pieced together and events are planned

Confusion is the currency they’ve built all of their kingdoms on

White homes do not host their crowns they’re places that they place a pawn

Puppets playing House is what we’re looking and we’re pointing at

And all the while he’s up there, the Old Unknown Aristocrat

We don’t even see all of the strings and pieces he commands

But he’s the one who wrote all of the things for which your flag now stands

His name: unknown. His work: unknown. He dodges notoriety

The master of this game knows this is how you mold society

Five steps ahead, he always knows which side he has to pick

Its easy when you know the things that make the people tick

This Old Unknown Aristocrat said of Earth, and all its flaws

If I control its money, I care not who makes its laws

An Address to the World Concerning the Ford/Kavanaugh Debate

Alright.

I’m going to attempt something that may never have been attempted since the dawn of humanity: I am going to try and bridge this ridiculous divide and help people see this Ford/Kavanaugh thing from both sides. While I’m pretty sure this ain’t gonna change anything and everyone is still gonna throw rocks at each other, at least I can sleep knowing I tried.

Get comfy, because this is gonna take a minute. But this is a very important issue, and imo one that we SHOULD spend the time considering.

———————————-

So, to:

TEAM KAVAUNAUGHTY

First, try to understand the sheer magnitude of frustration and emboldened passion for their world views that most liberals and leftists are experiencing at the moment. Not only do they have no upper hand in Congress, but they recently lost one of the most emotionally charged Presidential elections in American History. Never has the general populace been exposed to the political process as intimately as we have been since the internet and mass communication entered the equation. So try and cut them some slack for being just a wee bit exasperated; any normal human being would be. It’s natural for people to speak up more aggressively/assertively when they are in a weakened position such as the current balance of power; the psychological instinct is to feel a need to defend their beliefs, which is perfectly understandable. Now I’m not saying you should put up with the hatred and vitriol a lot of liberal supporters/media outlets have been spewing, but on an individual level, try and at least get along and be considerate of the struggle when you butt heads. And let’s be fair, when Obama was in office I sure didn’t see a lot of love coming from the right, even when he did things that deserved positive recognition. If the tables were turned, I imagine many of you would be acting in a similar fashion (which is precisely what we saw from 2008-2016).

Now, as far as our current case of America’s divisive flavor of the week: the Ford allegations. Yes, the law and socially-accepted standards of judging whether someone is guilty or not is on your side. We all get that, and to my knowledge there aren’t any liberals/dems refuting that. What they ARE trying to make you understand, however, is that the simple fact that we are undergoing this process to begin with; primarily because it’s regarding a candidate for one of the most powerful positions in human history. A Supreme Court Justice has the ability to affect, and to a certain degree literally dictate, how we as citizens conduct our lives. Paying EXTREME attention to their character, reliability, and general trustworthiness is absolutely paramount when deciding if an individual is worthy of the power to tell us how we’re allowed to live. So yes, the fact that this hiccup has occurred is, in and of itself, profoundly alarming.

This is the main point of Ford’s side that you need to consider when discussing and debating this matter. Because at the end of the day, pretty much everyone falls into one of two categories: you either see past this, or you don’t. EITHER OF WHICH is a completely, rationally justifiable conclusion. It is not at all unfair for someone to say that they would prefer we find a candidate whose history is void of this kind of concern, false or not. Sure, as far as we can all legally say, it didn’t happen. But those who are shaken by the simple possibility that this MIGHT have happened is enough to keep someone up at night. After all, its not like they’re advocating we throw the guy behind bars. They’re just concerned. A reason, which you should know especially if you’ve ever hired someone before, that can be enough to move on to the next resume for some. It’s just a personal preference; nothing more.

Anyway, there are a lot of other moving parts to this side and their motives, but that’s my general take when I try to stand in your opponent’s shoes, Naughty peeps. Please be mindful of these things when you’re telling liberals they’re the devil for trying to deceive their way into power. Not everyone is as evil as we tend to make them out to be, hard as that might be to believe.

Moving on to

TEAM FORD

This won’t take as long because as I mentioned, it doesn’t take a lot of explaining when the law and society’s behavioral status quo is on your opponent’s side. Their argument is pretty easy to understand. Like it or not, the inarguable truth is that barring some kind of DNA trace, picture/non-existent-at-the-time cellphone video, or other form of empirical evidence somehow magically transporting itself through time into the hands of investigators…this ain’t gonna be provable. Even Ford herself gets that, evident through the fact that her attorneys announced that they don’t intend to refute Kav’s testimony. At the end of this week’s FBI probe, the chips will fall where they may, and life will go on.

Its pretty much that simple for Team K. They are the type of folks who view due process as the governing dictator as to how we should formulate opinions and conclusions. Again, perfectly reasonable; especially considering that the entire legal system our forefathers created for us is based upon this exact sentiment. You are innocent until proven guilty, period. Making judgments based on anything less is impermissible and an egregious violation to a dignified, fair society. The line is blurred in this instance, however, because it’s not technically a “legal” matter; it’s an interview. So the question we have to ask is can we take a concern of unsubstantiated allegations into account since this is a slightly more discretionary situation than a formal legal matter? As with all of this, your answer will reflect your own personal beliefs; there’s no black and white correct answer here.

So for you Ford folks, that’s basically what you should consider when you’re accusing Kav supporters of “mansplaining”, bigotry, etc. They are simply a different type of person than you; not the kind who let’s the existence of (you must admit) un-provable doubt bother them when weighing the merits of a candidate. A conflicting, but equally as understandable and fair as your own, world view. This does not in any way make them “insensitive”, condescending to women, or otherwise sinister. I want to be clear on that, because I have seen a ton of these kinds of comments arising out of this case. #METOO is an inexplicably important and beneficial movement, but let’s not get lost in the momentum and unjustly overextend its influence.

———————————-

And that’s it, everyone. My point is that we all need to realize that human beings are a very dynamic, diverse, and different (alliteration ftw) group of individuals. The day when we all agree on everything will never arrive, much as we’d like it to. Debates such as the one we’re having right now will always hinder our ability to unite as not only a country, but a species in general. The only choice we have, if we are to ever achieve this unity thing we always hear about (which, confusingly, no one seems to ever do anything about), is to place ourselves in the minds of others and sincerely try to understand them and the forces driving their views. You’ll find that most people have honest intentions.

Oh, and speaking of sincerity. This essay was all a waste of time unless you have asked yourself this very important question: do I SINCERELY, genuinely care about any of this? Dam I truly even concerned about the grand scheme of things and people getting along? Because if we’re speaking plainly, it’s a biologically wired instinct among the Animal Kingdom to be content with our own lives and relationships, without much thought as to what’s going on outside of them. Doesn’t make you a bad person. I say this because it seems a lot of people instead just use these little pop-up conflicts as a convenient means to satisfy the need to share their own opinions, ignoring any concerns to the contrary (the satisfaction of winning Facebook tiffs must be very real, indeed). So if you’ve never looked in a mirror and asked these things, I strongly suggest you do a little soul-searching and self-discovery. Find out who you really are and what you care about; because I think we all know that the biggest lies we tend to tell are the ones we tell ourselves.

One last point. There is another group of people that none of this applies to (and tbh, the cynic in me is concerned this might actually be the majority, if social media is any indicator). These are the ones whose decisions and stances on these things are driven solely by their partisan politics and personal predispositions. No matter how much evidence, logic, or reason they are presented with; they ain’t gonna budge, because they are basically God and always right about everything, ever. These are the guys who will sooner go the grave before admitting they might be wrong about something or attempt to be more open minded. You all know who I’m talking about – those friends and acquaintances who you’ve literally never heard say “I’m sorry” in their lives. Yeah…don’t be one of them.

So to summarize every one of the almost 1,800 words you just read – for Christ’s, Allah’s, Buddha’s, Brahman’s, Vishnu’s, any other Gods I’m leaving outs, and the Universe’s sake: PLEASE try to get along. Like, really make the effort. Next time you feel the anger sharks swimming in your head, take a deep breath. Be the bigger person if someone’s being an ass and kill them with kindness. That’s how you win anyway, isn’t it? Don’t let the jerks think they said anything significant enough to affect you. Set the example they should aspire to.

There. If you made it this far, thank you for listening. If you feel inclined to share this message please do, because this is something which desperately needed to be said and we all know our media/politicians aren’t going to be advocating for the masses coming together anytime soon. If we could begin to think more along the lines mentioned here and start coming together, the power and influence we would hold as a united unit is immeasurable to the point of the world quite literally being transformed. After all, isn’t that the “change” we all like to talk about and wish for? We’ve waited long enough you guys.

This is how it happens.

America Then Vs. America Now

Lemme take you to an age before the days of Netflix

A time before you and I, when people made their own bricks

That’s right you pussy boys and girls – “Hold on a sec what year is this?”

One fucking seven, mother fucking seven six

That was the year that we stood and said, E-NUFF

“Take your shit back to Brit, this weak ass tea and other stuff”

“Hold on hat, you don’t like that? Go on get out your handcuff”

“I’m sick of all your taxes rather jump off Martha Vineyards bluff”

Waaaaait boyz, come on give me a break

The world’s been sleeping soundly now it’s fine’ly bout to be awake

Haven’t you heard? Healthcare should be a human right

Or could I be wrong? If so I don’t know why we fight

We’re changing the world, we stand here holding up our fists

All of you girls, get up and shame misogynists

We don’t like a President who judges people by their skin

Thank the God that we don’t think is real that none of us are Indian

Hooooold up, this isn’t what we fought for

We’re so ashamed at what became we’re rising out of Rushmore

It’s obvious that all you dweebs are needing this here crash course

So thank God you’re talking to the fucking eagle-blooded source

This. Isn’t. What. We. Had. In. Mind.

All. You. Do. Is. Bitch. And. Whine.

Man the fuck up, grow some balls and make this country free again

Turn off your TVs and fucking re-learn how to reason, men

Um, excuse me please, but you just sound like a big jerk

America today is different, watch us dance and watch us twerk

So get used to this new way of the world and new reality

How dare you scoff at human rights and my gender mentality

Meanwhile, overseas…

HA! Look! We’ve got them right where we want

They’re so accused of being used they can’t tell New York from Vermont!

Now it’s time to move while they have this dumb discussion

We shall crush them all with haste and make these morons Russian!

Muahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

Pussies.

The Worst Tinder Date Ever

Come here close, come here, see?

“Are these the things you said I need?”

“Wait a second, what is this?”

My trick worked, now you do belong to me

Come on down, don’t be shy

“I think that we should let it be”

Just you wait, you won’t regret

“You’re really starting to scare me”

You worry wart, this room is safe

“Are you just playing hard to get?”

Ask yourself, would I do that?

“I’m not sure sir cause we just met”

Here we are, just take a look!

“This place seems like its cool I guess”

You’re oh so right, now have a seat

“I see the checkerboard and chess”

There there now, let’s have a peek

“A peek at what, you silly man?”

A look at at all the options, see?

Because you’ve walked into my plan

“Wait a minute, what’d you say?”

Don’t fret now darling, just relax

Get yourself a comfy seat

And sit there till I sharp my ax

“Haha man, very funny,

Quit the acting, come here now”

You think I’m acting? Oh my dear

It’s not a joke, I’ll show you how

There we are, buckled in

“The hell is this you’re being weird?”

That’s okay, for very soon

I’ll show you what you all have feared

I think I’ll start with toenails, yes?

Shucking them like oyster shells

Soon you’ll realize who I am

And wish you were in seven hells

But wait right there and say a prayer

You aren’t going to see the light

And when I’m done and had my fun

You’ll wish you hadn’t swiped me right

My Hands

Never idle, on the move, ink pours on the page

The force that drives, a needed guide, is with me on this stage

I try to be an optimist, but sometimes I’m consumed by rage

Thinking of how things are done and how they could so quickly change

Yes all the world’s a stage you know, it’s something that you shan’t forget

The sun and stars would get along if only they’d shake hands and met

Humanity could follow suit, we’ve got the tech but somehow, yet

We manage to exacerbate the very things we should forget

Fossil fuels and everything, you know that it’s all temporary

But tell me more of how it works, and how mining isn’t mercenary

If you truly want to change the world into a gilded sanctuary

Then play the long game not the short, and hire you an actuary

Maybe they can run the numbers, project a truth that you won’t like

Their findings likely point to truth like human beings should take a hike

Sure, we all know that we need to build that interstate or that turnpike

Yet as we do this trees are cut, it’s like the land of the Third Reich

Yes it’s so, the world’s a stage, it’s just a game of checkers, chess

We put our pieces on the board, where we think they’ll help us best

And when we find a new chance to establish ourselves, let me guess

You want to build a military presence just to clean the mess

Sure my man, come on down, bring your gadgets and your tech

Cause I don’t really care what happens as long as I get that big check

You see this is why the world is wasted, all it’s countries are a wreck

We let the people be in charge that only care for their own neck

Maybe one day you’ll wake up, realize that this dream of yours

Doesn’t have to happen this way and you won’t be on all fours

Rising up and taking charge, you’ll fight and finely take these lands

Until then I’ll try my best, just writing with my moving hands

The Tiki Torches: 3

“Alright, everyone. This evening we have an excellent opportunity to show these people just what we mean. We’ve tolerated centuries of oppression, decades of condescension, and countless years of bigotry! I say unto you all, stand up for your rights! Stand up for your freedoms! Stand up for the God Given, inherent capabilities of existing as a human being!”

Hurrah!!

Standing tall in front of a melting pot of human beings, the mayor of the city of Perth gives an emboldened speech at the municipalitie’s town hall meeting. As a champion of all races and creeds, he has garnered the support of pretty much the entire town. Except, of course, a small minority of closed minded bigots who refuse to adapt to change.

“We will stand strong with our brothers and sisters, no matter the cost!” The mayor shouts from his podium inside the town halll. “This is but a small town, but we are a united town!” He adds, a finger shaking in the air to reiterate his point.

“We will not allow a small contingent of oppressors to light up the evening! We will stamp out the flames of injustice!” Hurrah! “We shall stop them in their tracks!” Hurrah! “We shall meet them on the battlefield of intellectual opposition, and let none leave without exposure to our light!” HURRAH!!!!

As the mayor lets the crowd’s energy die down, he holds out his arms.

“My friends.” He says. “Let us begin preparations. It’s been reported that there has been a spike in Tiki Torch sales at the Wal-Smart across town. Let’s show them that these torches shall not have been bought in vain! We shall show them the error of their ways.”

Hurrahhhh!!!!!!

Slowly walking off his town hall stage, the mayor finally takes a moment to catch his breath.

“Great speech, sir!” One of his constituents says.

“Yeah. It was. But it was just that. A speech.” The mayor snaps back, obviously caught up in thinking about something else.

“But sir, you moved the entire town! That surely must count for something.” The constitutant says.

“Yes. They’re motivated. And for that I am grateful. But there is so much else left to do.” The mayor says.

“Come, we must prepare for the Torches.” He adds with a sly wink, clearly indicating that he has something in store for the folks riding his way.

The Other Side

Oh my freakin’ God, guys

Here we go again

Just throw the leather ball, dude

My team – it needs a win

You really aren’t oppressed, guys

And my moneys on the line

So if you don’t deliver, then

I’m trading you next time

Leave politics to them, bro

‘Cause no one really cares

Just score and make my team win

Leave out the thoughts upstairs
—————————————————
Now hang on one damn second, man

You haven’t heard my side

I’ve put up with all this bullshit

For my whole entire life

I’m sick of all the judgment

When I walk into the store

And how so many hate us

Except for when we score

I’m more than that, my brother

I’m a human, after all

And treating me as you are

It drives us up the wall

So please, my man, just stop it

We want all to get along

You’ll win your league, I promise

When you know that we belong

For Better or Worse (Ch 7)

“Ho hum ho hum deedeedee!”

Joyfully skipping around her bedroom, the little girl is singing and humming to herself as her furry pigtails bounce around behind her.

“Now, what are my teenie-weenies up to today?” She asks, skipping over to the terrarium.

As she peers inside, she sees that her little creatures have erected an enormous statue of her. Chiseled to perfection, the monolith displays her every feature, dimpled smile and all.

“Wow! Well look at that!” She squeals in delight. “How did you guys do that without me noticing?!”

Leaning back to admire the sculpture, she beams at the tiny inhabitants inside, who appear to be bowing before her.

“You guys are just so adorable. Thank you for my statue!” She says to them.

Entering her room, the girl’s father approaches the tank as he puts his hand on her head.

“Time for bed, sweetie.”

Noticing the statue, he chuckles.

“And what have we here?” He asks.

“My teenie-weenies built me a monument, Daddy! Look!” The little girl says, pointing to the newly erected obelisk.

“Very impressive!” Her father laughs. “You are clearly a generous God. Now come, let’s get you tucked in.”

“Okay Daddy.” The girl says as her father lifts her up, placing her under the sheets. Kissing her on the forehead, smiles at her before walking out the door.

“I love you, kiddo.” He says.

“Love you too Daddy.” The girl replies, yawning as she softly falls asleep.

Jellyfish

Oh, won’t you just look

How she swoons. Don’t you wish

She’d just get her own room?

That smug, prissy, pompous fish

Ugh, all the glamour

All the glint, all the glee

Get over yourself, fishy

You think you’re pretty?

Ha! All we fish

Swim around, making fun

As you duck lip your way

Thinking you’re the only one

Well here’s some news, ma’am

All us others swim and swam

And we all think your body

Looks like gross belly spam

So who cares if you’re hot?

We all gossip, we all wish

Because truth lies inside,

That we’re all…jellyfish!

Perspective

Perspective

Hello! My friendly friend

Please, lend me just one ear

This story must be told

This true tale you must hear

For back when life just started

Long ago when things begun

There were but only two things

The universe’s wheel had spun

These two things fought and bickered

Until there came a day

A third thing tried to hurt them

And take their lives away

So helping one another

The two things formed a plan

To rid themselves of others

And join forces hand in hand

Well as the three were fighting

Another joined the fun

It tried to rule them all

But three things had turned to one

Helping all around them

They’d almost won the fight

‘Till the fifth came in to battle

So the four grouped all their might

They fought off this new creature

They knew soon six shall arrive

Come in from out of nowhere

And force truce to stay alive

The truce made these things realize

That these fights were really dumb

And standing strong together

Beats waging war as one

Vote for me folks, your candidate of change!

(My glistening smile can sell anything)

Don’t be shy guys, my numbers are great!

(Mostly my budget will pay any rate)

The rest are corrupt! I say what I mean

(And hope that my lines aren’t read in between)

Once I’m in office, you’ll smile and cheer!

(Regret your decision, and long for next year)

Don’t wait any longer, just run to the polls!

(Shut up and vote, my foods getting cold)

For man and for country, I’ll represent all!

(But mainly the folks that I golfed with last Fall)

Elections are over, let’s tally the vote!

(I hope they paid off, invites to my boat)

Yes! Here we are, in office I stand!

(Time to wreak havoc on your forsaken land)

Love & Loss: 10

They’re coming.

We don’t know when, but we know. The Germans are launching a counter offensive. We’ve been expecting this for weeks, as it’s crucial that we maintain control of the supply lines. Sicily is too valuable a target, and we should have known they would defend it to the very last man.

Our intelligence officer has intercepted a telegram that we are to be assaulted in the coming days.

My time in this war has given me so much perspective. Some of the things I’ve seen are nightmarishly horrific. Seeing the atrocious ways a human being can treat another human being when under the guise of war is the most terrifying observation I’ve had. This isn’t a world that anyone deserves. I feel the heaviest weight on my heart when I see a little girl be saved from debris, only to find her parents dead from shelling. I feel the weight of the farmers who are being forced to provide rations to the Nazis against their will.

It hurts to think about these things. I must protect Adalasia. That’s the only thing I can hold on to in this world of chaos. She gives me purpose. I love her for that.

Why am I fighting this war? That was a question searing in my head for the longest time. But now I know. I’m fighting this war to preserve the short glimmers of happiness that my Adalasia provides. It’s what were all fighting for.

I love her so much.

The Guide To Getting Along

Hello friends! Matt here.

Okay. So it seems we might have reached somewhat of an impasse, wouldn’t you agree? Let’s take a look at things from its highest level.

In its most basic form, we have the left versus the right. Now, that’s the general description. Mind you, some people believe in right stuff and maybe a left thing or two and vice versa, but ultimately, you get the point. SO! Knowing that we all have different stances on one thing or the other, let’s take into consideration the concept of perspective. This is probably going to sound like elementary to some of you, but this is literally what is apparently being required. So don’t blame me.

Now, let’s start with the fundamentals. There are three sides to everything in life. They are:

  • Side 1: Your side.
  • Side 2: Their side.
  • Side 3: Reality.

Let’s review. Every argument ever will have two opposing sides, both of which will try to articulate why they are correct.

Now, your thoughts and beliefs on what is “right” and what is “wrong” may differ from that of your opponent’s. Let’s take abortion, for example. Some of you think aborting a fetus is killing a soul. Some of you believe it is not, and it is merely a few pieces of biological tissue. So there are your two sides. The truth is, we do not know. That is reality. We don’t know if there is a soul in that fetus, just like we don’t know there is a God. It is a faith based system. This is not sacrilege, this is common sense. Any Christian will tell you that their religion is based on faith, not proof. I chose this example because its the best to dictate the point here: there is a Side 1, a Side 2, and a reality. A reality which we cannot fully, 100% say is true or false.

So, back to the getting along part. In order for anyone, anywhere, ever, to get along – you must remove yourself from being offended by people who believe in Side 2 (Their side). You must be okay that other people do not think the same way as you, and thus must respect their “perspective”. This post should serve as the perfect exercise, since so many people become “offended” when you even consider the fact that we might be alone. Believe me, I don’t want that to be the case. In fact that would quite literally terrify me. But I’m confident enough in my convictions and beliefs to the point where if someone else tries to explain their point of view and how it conflicts with mine…I wouldn’t get offended. I can honestly say I perfectly respect people who truly think Gays shouldn’t marry. I can respect the ones who say abortion should be legal. Because I know that we live in an imperfect world, and my opinion will never be the absolute necessary one to apply to reality.

This stuff is very simple. It really, really, is. Just stop getting offended. Talk about your point of view with the acknowledgement that the other person might think differently, and if they do, you are still going to live. Don’t feel compelled to control the minds of other people. Don’t disrespect them for having their own beliefs. Now, will someone find a way to read this and say well X is why we can’t get along? Yes, that is going to happen. Unfortunately. But again, that is going to be due to their inability to simply be okay with a conflicting perspective.

Anyway, this is a very simple system. And it should be most easy to follow. If, of course, we allow ourselves to.

I hope you enjoyed The Guide to Getting Along.

Well, This is Going to be Interesting

Relief. Fear. Excitement. Disappointment. Intrigue.

Just when we thought we’d reached a boiling point, emotions (and with them, tensions) are at an all-time high in this country of ours. The entire world looks to us as it wonders what we will do next as a nation which has historically set the example of how industrialized society should conduct itself. It is difficult to argue that the United States has, over time, carved itself into the role of older brother to the rest of its peers – the innovator, experimenter, and deviant who paves the way for others to follow. It’s economic, cultural, and military influence has long dominated the planet, creating a massive responsibility for itself of upholding the core values upon which it was founded.

For those in my generation, we have witnessed a very depressed version of The American Dream – as our only perception of society since entering the work force has dealt with near-unprecedented economic decline, political corruption, and heightened social tensions. We’ve witnessed mass murders on a frequency never before seen. We saw the financial collapse of ’08 just as we graduated college. We experienced millions having their homes helplessly stripped away during the housing & mortgage crises. We watched as civilians were killed at the hands of those sworn to protect, simultaneously begging the question of whether these incidents were simply exacerbated by a cruel and manipulative media seeking to create a distraction. Heck, one of our first adult memories was 9/11.

Perhaps those reading this will think I’m being too harsh. Regardless, one thing is true: people my age have never been fortunate enough to experience the America our parents told us about. Our narrative has been dominated by violence, divisiveness, and the greatest wealth gap in our history.

Yes, it’s suffice to say that we could all use a break.

Thankfully, our country is vehemently fighting a crucial battle of tipping the scales; one that will quite literally dictate life as we know it in the coming years and likely decades. This “we’ve had enough” mentality, for better or worse, just resulted in what I daresay was one of the greatest political upsets in the history of the world. For once, no amount of money, power, or corruption could subdue the voice that the masses so loudly cried. You may not support the president-elect, but any respectable person has to agree that those who hold high society in contempt have finally gotten what they asked for – someone they believe will fight for them. And soon, as the world looks on in both frightened & hopeful anticipation, we will discover if that historically muffled voice will be heard.

Its going to go one of two ways. The man will rise above the hate, pushing the doubts aside and become one of our greatest leaders ever – or he will epically stumble and fall. Regarding his journey of overcoming unbelievable odds, I can’t help but be reminded of the metaphorical dog who finally catches that car he’s spent a lifetime chasing; that moment of now what? Donald Trump has at last caught the one position with which he’s spent a lifetime flirting, and only time will tell what he does with it.

I, for one, am hopeful. Maybe it’s my mother’s optimism shining through. Perhaps it’s childish naïveté. In any case, hope is all we can cling to as we ride this wave into the unpredictable waters ahead. As citizens, however, it’s incumbent upon us to give the man a chance. If we shut down, cross our arms like children and refuse, then we embody the exact judgmental attitude that we all claim to despise. It’s imperative that we maintain open minds if we expect this place to get any better.

I think we can all agree that one thing is true, no matter where we stand.

There has never been a more important time for us to stick together.

The World Will Change Tomorrow – Or it Won’t

“It is what it is.”

Don’t you hate it when people say that? As if we have no control whatsoever over what’s going on. Well, tonight, I daresay, that cliche will be all we have to turn to once the results of this election have been determined.

My only hope is that the majority of us still understand that we’re all in this together and those that pull the strings should have little to no influence on our happiness and daily lives. Sure, policy-makers affect the high-level things, but what’s truly important in our lives? That’s the main question I think we need to ask when considering how important our leaders are when it comes to daily life.

Sometimes I wonder if most of us have actually asked ourselves that most fundamental of questions. If you’re reading this, think about it. What really matters to you? What kind of things are important enough to cause you to get up and do something?

Hopefully most of us have these answers figured out when we go to the polls. We want to cast our faith (because that’s what voting is) in a person who reflects our values. We want to support someone who can shape the world into the image we would most like it to be. Most importantly, we expect them to maintain accountability to our expectations. They represent us. That’s a very important fact that I think is far too often overlooked.

I’ll keep this short. All in all, don’t let this election taint friendships or family relations. We would be doing ourselves a disservice if we allowed that to happen. The world will still be the same tomorrow. The only difference being that come January, the White House will be stocking either extra toupees or hideous pant suits.

The Next America

One day, the millennial generation will inherit the planet.

If we take a step back and look at the world in a high level view, there are some things that become clear. There seems to be a generational disconnect on how things should work. Almost like the old, and the new. It’s like the world is struggling to adjust to the monumental leaps we’ve made as a society, and government is a particular subject of these growing pains.

We are approaching a point where the relevance of title, birth, and class are increasingly irrelevant. Anyone can make it in a world supported by capitalism. This societal mobility can also be attributed to globalism and the internet. Instant access to information, the quickness of physical travel, and other technological achievements have had enormous social repercussions. The chains of the masses have essentially been unshackled, and the majority finally has access to real information and opportunity, allowing anyone and everyone to reach their full potential. There is still a ways to go in parts of the world, but it’s a start.

The important thing is that we are gradually leveling the playing field, which is something the higher ups do not want. That’s what we’re seeing today. We’re seeing the liberation of the majority. And it’s beautiful.

To be perfectly honest, I think that’s one reason we see the establishment fighting tooth and nail to hold on to the antiquated policies and ways of doing things. That’s why we’re seeing so much Trump bashing and Hillary baiting by the media. The interests of much of Americas corporate, public, and privates sectors lie together, and they cunningly take care of each other. Of course you can’t really blame them – they’re used to their way of life and this evolution is a threat to it. But this enormous surge of Trumpers seems to reflect the American mentality that they’re sick of being treated as lesser individuals.

But that seems to be the state of things. I suppose people will keep pushing until it doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like or where you were born – you have all the rights and say as anyone else.  From what I can tell, my generation seems to agree that there is a certain degree of universal equality. There are outliers of course, but I think that will be sorted out in time as popular opinion takes its course.

When It’s Over: After the Election

Everyone feels the tension. There’s an inescapable, lingering stress that our country won’t shed until this election season is over and all ballots have been cast and counted.

Regardless of where you stand politically, there is one, transcendant requirement that we all must bear in mind – at our core, we are one.

Now obviously, there will be winners and there will be losers. That’s the nature of our political system. But for us, the people, we need to be aware that division is precisely what gives power to those that hold it. On November 9th, we mustn’t let ourselves bicker and fight. The winners should be humble and the losers respectful. Because ultimately we all have the same goal, and that is to live in a country which fosters opportunity, freedom of choice, and liberty.

I’ll keep this brief. My point is this: please don’t let the outcome of this election adversely affect your relationships. We all have friends and family each with unique perspectives.

Unity

I’m going to keep this short.

It’s no secret that this political season has gotten people riled up. Everywhere we turn we see partisan this, negative that, she did this, he said that, and so on. And to a certain extent, it’s warranted. Americans feel cheated by the conditions they’ve been forced to live under, and it’s reached a boiling point. Totally understandable.

But let’s not allow the tensions to destroy what we’re fighting for to begin with. Our relationships and communities are what hold us together. It’s important that we remain united, regardless of what happens after the election. Because at the end of the day, these politicians and higher ups have no idea what it’s like for the rest of us. They don’t live the lives we live. They don’t get up every morning wondering if the bills are paid. They don’t care what actually going on in our lives.

You know what they do care about? Their legacies. Their egos. Their public perceptions. Heck, the majority of the problems we deal with were manufactured by them to begin with. This whole race thing, the bickering over gender, all the other junk we’ve been distracted by –  you think it was a coincidence that all this just happened to occur during a major election?

I’m not going to get on a soapbox (for once). I just want people to get along. Please, please focus on what matters: making the world a better place. Both candidates suck, we all know that. We also know that one of them is going to win. Sure, we would love to have Gary or someone else step in, but let’s be real. It’s not gonna happen. So we need to face reality and make the most of it.

Effective problem solving is facing a situation and tackling it for what it is. That’s what we’re going to have to do as a country. And we can’t do it if we’re fighting each other.
